Community involvement

The Woodburn to Ballina upgrade studies include community and stakeholder involvement, to ascertain the values, issues and concerns of the community.

The objectives of the community involvement are to:

  • Create stakeholder and community awareness of the study and the need for the upgrade.
  • Understand stakeholder and community issues, values and concerns related to the project.
  • Create stakeholder and community awareness of the route options and then the preferred route.
  • Incorporate stakeholder and community issues into each phase of the investigation, from the development of route options to the refinement of the preferred option and concept design.
  • Assist stakeholders and the community to understand the results of the study and to understand the next steps.

The following activities provide opportunities for the community to become involved in the study:

  • A project information line so that members of the community can speak with a member of the project team during business hours. If the phone is unattended, please leave a message. Phone 1800 887 112 (free call).
  • Community information sessions held at Wardell, Broadwater and Woodburn on 22, 23 and 24 November 2004 with over 320 people attending.
  • A community liaison group (CLG) to assist with the investigations. This group met regularly with the study team during the options development phase of the project.
  • A community information centre to provide and receive information on the project, located at 93 River Street, Woodburn.
  • Community updates released at various stages of the project to provide information about project developments.
  • Advertising in the local area keeps the community informed throughout the project.
  • Route options were on display for public comment from 23 May to 04 July 2005.
  • The preferred route was on display from 30 November 2005 to 31 January 2006.
